Enjoying Rhodes

Gambar
With a past in drama and a lifelong Xena; Warrior Princess fan, I've long had a yen to visit Greece and this summer we finally made it, during August; the hottest possible time of the year! Oh, how would my English Rose, British constitution cope with the heat of Rhodes....? We were on the Western side of the Island, near the tip of the spear head in Ixia; not the most cultural area but only a cock-stride to Rhodes town where you'll find culture and history on every corner. The enduring symbol of Rhodes you'll see everywhere (from magnets to tea towels!)  is, of course, the colossus; a giant bronze statue of an Adonis-like warrior standing astride the harbour, Game of Thrones style, as visitors sail between the legs into the city. In actual fact the colossus stood next to the harbour in a Statue of Liberty type pose - without the dress! Although an earthquake destroyed the ancient wonder centuries ago, the harbour is still beautiful and in the same place as its ancient ...

DIY Beauty - 1 Ingredient Facemasks!

Gambar
1 area where I really do think the kitchen cupboards are the best option are facemasks! What's more, you don't even need a long list of ingredients to make a nourishing, soothing and brightening treat for your skin; there are a bunch of ingredients which work perfectly well as facemasks all on their own. From overnight to 15 minutes , here are my favourite 1 ingredient facemasks! 1. Honey Definitely a hero skincare ingredient - great for acne AND hydration! BENEFITS: hydrating, soothing, anti-acne, antibacterial and brightening HOW TO: Simply apply a layer onto your skin with your finger tips, leave it on as long as you like and rinse off. 10 minutes or an hour? it's up to you! I wouldn't recommend sleeping in this one... EXTRA TIPS: *Honey becomes much runnier as it warms so don't apply too much! *It's particularly good if you have an event later as it works wonders as a brightening treatment. *As soon as you add water to your face to rinse away, the stic...

Biathlon - A Beginner's Guide

Gambar
Biathlon; cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It's an exciting sport; it can all change on one missed shot , racers dance past each other up hills steeper than stair cases . There are mountains, snow and beautiful forests of firs . Although I've never actually skied on real snow, I'm addicted to it - this is the exciting world of Biathlon. The season runs from November to around March with world championships as the highlight. It's the perfect Christmas sport! Little Christmas trees are sprinkled around the courses, the crowds are bundled up in woolly hats and scarves, the huge fir trees are weighed down by heavy snowfall and each venue is surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges. Sometimes the snow is falling during the race - a great sport to watch with a cup of hot chocolate! The biathlon tour moves weekly to venues especially created and prepared months in advance for the races. Whilst there, 4 types of races selected from a possible 6 will be held. Skiers ...

A Winter Love Story - Cosy up with an Annual 'Ski-Holiday'

Gambar
It's about this time of year when I kindle my cosy Autumnal spirit into full blown Winter Spirit  (and dare I even utter the festive C word?) with Autumn/Winter Movies, (see my favourite 11 cosy movies here) Bailey's hot chocolate and my annual Ski Holiday with Cee Cee, Tonya, Jessica and Lauren in Jane Claypool Miner's 'A Winter Love Story'. Do you remember Point Romance books? I still have quite the collection including this, my first and favourite: A Winter Love Story . As you can see it's well-read!! And that's because I've read it nearly every Winter since I was 13.  Every year I return to Paradise Lodge , go skiing with Tonya and Lauren, hate Angel and fall in love with Davey and Jon all over again . It's a wonderful, warm story about 4 girls trying to have the ski trip of their lives while dealing with their own drama. Green tights, yellow and purple sweater, orange and purple earrings --- aah yes, the 90s were interesting! Cee Cee is prob...

Fall into Film; 11 Autumn Movies for those Cozy, Hot Chocolate and a Blanket Days

Gambar
Against a backdrop of Autumn leaves, snow covered landscapes, roaring fireplaces, ice-skating rinks and beautiful countryside , enjoy 90s classics, beautiful Disney movies, period dramas and classic comedies . Here are my favourite films of Autumn to give you that warm, cosy feeling as you hide under a furry blanket and drink some hot chocolate (or mulled wine if you're in our house!). The Cutting Edge A 90s classic that doesn't age. Full of energy, vivid characters and excellent performances by all involved. Moira Kelly plays Kate, Olympic figure skating hopeful with a bossy, demanding work ethic that drives her skating partners away. D.B. Sweeney is the hockey star whose career is cut short before it even starts when he's smacked in the eye with a puck. Together, they try to overcome their mutual dislike to get to the winter olympics and win the gold all against a backdrop of snow, 90s power dressing and some wonderful workout wear from Moira Kelly. I also ...
